Two teams at the bottom of the points table square off in match 37 of this 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings have been poor and are on the verge of being knocked out.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have just one win from eight games so far. They need to win every single game from here on in order to stand a chance of making a line. The batting has misfired quite a bit and David Warner’s scratchy form and inconsistent run hasn’t really helped either. Skipper Kane Williamson has chipped in nicely. However, the likes of Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav and Abdul Samad need to step up. With the ball, it’s been all Rashid Khan. None of the SRH bowlers have taken more than five wickets in this IPL 2021. Hence, SRH desperately needs to turn things around.
On the other hand, Punjab Kings didn’t have a great run either. They have just three wins and have as many as six defeats. They lost a game despite needing just eight runs in the final two overs with two set batters at the crease. Punjab managed to bottle it up. Now, they are second-last on the points table and with six losses already to their tally, they can barely afford any more slip-ups. The batting is still top-heavy and the middle-order will have to step up. The bowling has been inconsistent too.
The head to head record is in SRH’s favour who have won 12 out of the 17 games that these two sides have squared off in.

T Natarajan and Vijay Shankar are unavailable for this game. Natarajan tested positive for COVID-19 and Vijay Shankar was identified as close contact. The rest of the players returned a negative test and are fit and available.
Adil Rashid had a disappointing IPL debut as he conceded 35 runs from his three overs. The batting looked a touch light and hence, the England leg-spinner could face the axe. Moises Henriques could come in for him. Ravi Bishnoi might come into the side and replace Ishan Porel. The rest of the playing XI is likely to remain the same. Ishan Porel could sit out as well if they opt to accommodate a second spinner and Ravi Bishnoi could come in.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: David Warner, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson (c), Kedar Jadhav, Jason Holder, Abdul Samad, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma/ Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed
Punjab Kings: KL Rahul (c & wk), Mayank Agarwal, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Deepak Hooda, Fabian Allen, Moises Henriques/Adil Rashid, Harpreet Brar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Porel/Ravi Bishnoi
Rashid Khan: SRH have been quite dependant on Rashid Khan to deliver the goods with the ball. The Afghanistan superstar leg-spinner has returned with 11 wickets from eight games at an economy rate of 6.18 in this ongoing 2021 season of the IPL. He is way ahead of any other SRH bowler. Khaleel Ahmed is the next best (on the wicket charts) with five wickets from six games. Even in defeat when SRH conceded runs at an economy of nearly 8, Rashid returned with figures of 4-0-26-1.
KL Rahul: KL Rahul has consistently got big runs in this tournament. The PBKS skipper is the second-highest run-getter in this IPL 2021 and has amassed 380 runs at an average of 63.33. Moreover, he is striking at 137.68 in this tournament. Moreover, he has four half-centuries and has become a run-making machine. His approach with the bat will be interesting to see after his side’s narrow two-run loss. Thus, Rahul is going to be the vital player for PBKS.
