Pakistan will lock horns with South Africa in the 26th match of the ICC ODI World Cup at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, October 27.
Babar Azam and co. are coming into this game on the back of a hat-trick of losses. They suffered an embarrassing loss to Afghanistan by eight wickets in the last game and they will be eager to bounce back in this game.
South Africa, on the other hand, are enjoying a sublime run of form. They look well poised to win this contest owing to the superiority of their batting lineup.
Pakistan started off well but they have some real concerns heading into this encounter. The form of their skipper Babar Azam, even though he scored a fifty in the last game, has been very concerning. He hasn't looked convincing at all and the other batters have been quite inconsistent as well.
The bowlers also have looked like pale shadows of what they used to be before the tournament. The pacers have looked toothless, but the spin department is Pakistan's major weakness.
They have no specialist spinner in the side with all-rounders like Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz operating in the middle overs. That's not how you want your side to be in a tournament like the World Cup.
Mohammad Rizwan has been the best batter for Pakistan in this tournament. He has already amassed more than 300 runs in this tournament, including a century and a fifty, and he is expected to play another good knock in this match.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Shaheen Shah Afridi picked up a five-wicket haul recently but he has been quite wayward as far as bowling with the new ball is considered. Bowling with the new ball is his strength, though, and he is expected to be back at his best in this game.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
South Africa, on the other hand, have been in rampaging form as far as their batting is considered. Barring that one game against Netherlands, they have posted totals in excess of 350 for fun.
All of Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen have scored centuries on different occasions in this tournament and that shows the kind of form they are in.
The bowling has stepped up big time as well. They were a little expensive in the first couple of matches, but now they have tightened their lines and lengths. The pacers are picking up wickets regularly, both with the new ball and at the death, and that's helped them become a formidable side.
Aiden Markram has been in excellent form in this campaign. He is expected to play a crucial role in the middle-order. Markram has amassed 265 runs so far, including a century and two fifties.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Kagiso Rabada has picked up 10 wickets in five games so far, at an excellent average of 21.90. He could trouble the batters a lot in this contest.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Aiden Markram is expected to be the Player of the Match in this contest. He is an excellent player of both spin and pace and that's why he is going to play a crucial role for South Africa in the middle-order.
Teams winning the toss should always opt to bat first at this venue. The deck favours the spinners and it will only get slower and will turn more as the match progresses. So, batting first is always the right decision after winning the toss here.
The deck at this venue is a bit tough for the batters as it aids the spinners. But the team batting first always has an advantage. The average score batting first at this venue is 236.
The day is going to be bright and sunny, with partly cloudy skies. Temperatures are expected to be around 32 degree Celsius and there are no chances of rain.
South Africa are the clear favourites to win this contest even though Pakistan is a quality team. The Proteas are firing on all cylinders and it's very hard to stop them at the moment.
The batters are in crazy form and the bowlers have also supported them well. Pakistan have too many problems at the moment and that's why they could get bulldozed by the Proteas in this game.
