India and Bangladesh will lock horns in the 17th match of the ongoing Cricket World Cup. The match will be played at Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune. India are coming into this with three consecutive wins and are at the top of the points table. On the other hand, Bangladesh began their campaign well with a win over Afghanistan but have lost to England and New Zealand since.
India have no reason to change their winning combination. Their opener Shubman Gill scored only 16 runs in the Pakistan clash but has returned fully fit from a dengue bout. Rohit Sharma is in brilliant form and so is Virat Kohli. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have also done their jobs while Shreyas Iyer has also spent time in the middle.
With the ball, Jasprit Bumrah has led the bowling attack well with Mohammed Siraj finally stepping up against the arch-rivals. The spinners in Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja have been brilliant so far and will be keen on striking in the middle overs for India.
However, the bone of contention will be the number 8 slot. Shardul Thakur bowled only two overs in the last game and didn’t get a chance to bat. Ravichandran Ashwin played only against Australia and has been warming the bench. Depending on the conditions, these two players will be rotated throughout the tournament.
Rohit Sharma is in sensational form with the bat. He has scored 131 and 86 runs in the last two outings and is in amazing form at the moment. Moreover, Bangladesh played against India in both 2015 and 2019 World Cups and in both matches, Rohit smashed a roaring ton. This certainly makes him the predicted best batter for this match.

Jasprit Bumrah has accounted for eight wickets so far in this World Cup at an average of 11.62 and is on of the top of the charts as well. He is the one who provides the breakthrough at any stage of the match. The pitch in Pune is unknown to many with first match of World Cup being played here. Hence, Bumrah can only be the one who can turn the game on its head.

Bangladesh are fretting on their skipper Shakib Al Hasan’s fitness. He sustained a quad injury during the last game against New Zealand. Though he is doubtful for this game, the left-hander is not ruled out either. Bangladesh will be hoping for him to get fit just in time for this match.
Litton Das is one player who likes to take on India’s bowling attack. He has done it multiple times in multination tournaments with latest effort coming in the T20 World Cup encounter last year. He smashed 60 off 27 balls before his run-out turned the game. Das has also scored a century in ODIs against India which makes him the batter to look forward to in this match.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Taskin Ahmed could just be the best bet upfront with the new ball for Bangladesh in this match. The pitch in Pune is fresh and will have something in it for the fast bowlers in the powerplay overs. If Taskin lands it right, he has the ability to trouble India’s top order.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Looking at the way Rohit Sharma batted in the last two outings, the India skipper can win the award yet again. If he does, it will be his 7th player of the match award in World Cup. Rohit is playing aggressively upfront in this mega event and might just turn out to be the difference between the two teams.
Rohit Sharma might just be lucky to win the toss. With this pitch being fresh, no team would risk batting first and hence, the side winning the toss might bowl first.
This is the first time a World Cup match is happening at the MCA stadium in Pune. The venue has hosted seven ODIs before with 307 being the average first innings score. Four times the side batting first has won while on three occasions, teams have chased down the total.
Pitches have been relaid for the World Cup especially and it will be a fresh wicket. It will have something in it to start with but will get flatter as the game progresses.
As far as the weather is concerned, there is no chance of rain with October heat likely to keep the players on their toes. The temperature will be around 33-34 Degrees Celsius during the match.
India are the clear favourites to win this match given their smashing form in this World Cup. But things can change quickly as it has happened with a couple of teams now and they will be aware of the threat Bangladesh possesses.
