Mumbai Indians will be up against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 65th match of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians have had disappointing IPL 2022 campaigns underlying in the bottom half of the table.
To say that Sunrisers Hyderabad’s IPL campaign has been bizarre will be an understatement. They lost their first couple of matches, then went on a five-game winning run and have again suffered five losses on the trot. As a result, SRH find themselves third from bottom in the table. They have amassed 10 points and have a net run rate of -0.270.
Sunrisers Hyderabad were no match for Kolkata Knight Riders in their most recent IPL game. Andre Russell proved to be the saviour for KKR once again and smashed 49 runs off 28 deliveries to take them to a comfortable total of 177/6. He then rolled up his sleeves and picked up a three-wicket haul to annihilate the SRH batting unit, and secured a 54-run win for his side. Only Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram were able to show their worth with the bat in that game.
On the other hand, five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians have also had a miserable season. Having played 12 matches, they have won only thrice and all of those victories have come in the last four matches. While Mumbai Indians’ recent upturn in form is a slight positive to take away from the season, it has arrived far too late to inspire a push for the playoffs.
Mumbai Indians won their most recent match against Chennai Super Kings quite comprehensively. In a match marred with DRS controversy, MI bowled out of their skin to bundle out CSK for just 97. Although they themselves look to be in trouble for a while, Tilak Varma played a composed knock in the middle to help them cross the finish line with five wickets in hand with more than five overs to spare.
The two sides have faced each other 18 times in the Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians hold the advantage with 10 wins while Sunrisers Hyderabad are not too far behind and have won eight games. Mumbai Indians have also been better recently and have won all of their last three games against them.
Wins: Mumbai Indians 10, Sunrisers Hyderabad 8
Last 5 matches: Mumbai Indians 4, Sunrisers Hyderabad 1
This might be a difficult result to predict. Both sides have been inconsistent this season and haven’t lived up to their potential. Sunrisers Hyderabad have been in a dismal run of form and have lost all of their last five matches. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are showing signs of resurgence and have won three of the last four encounters. Therefore, on the basis of form, one can expect MI to come out on top here. Check our MI vs SRH prediction to know more about the history between these teams.
Mumbai Indians will miss Suryakumar Yadav sorely as his absence deflates an already weak-looking middle-order where only Tilak Varma has been able to make a mark. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma have been very inconsistent while Kieron Pollard has also struggled immensely. Jasprit Bumrah continues to be the most reliable figure for them with the ball but lacks a strong supporting cast.
Sunrisers Hyderabad are expected to turn towards Abhishek Sharma at the top of the order. The likes of Rahul Tripathi, Nicholas Pooran, and Aiden Markram are also capable of hitting the big shots. Umran Malik’s frantic pace makes him an exciting watch while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan have been more than reliable.
T Natarajan has bowled extremely well and has found breakthroughs quite regularly for his side. He has scalped 18 wickets in 10 matches and will be hoping to get a few victims to add to his tally here as well.
Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumran and Daniel Sams could end up being in contention for the man of the match award. From Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rahul Tripathi, Abhishek Sharma, Nicholas Pooran and Bhuvneshwar Kumar could be key.
Tilak Varma has unquestionably been the best batter for Mumbai Indians all season. He has been the king in the middle overs and has amassed 368 runs from 12 games.
Abhishek Sharma has been the most reliable run-scorer for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has scored 374 runs in 12 matches and has provided with security and impetus while opening the batting for the side.
