Lucknow Super Giants will collide with Rajasthan Royals in the 63rd match of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Both LSG and RR have been two of the most consistent teams in IPL 2022 and they are ranked second and third on the table respectively.
Lucknow Super Giants have been mighty impressive in their debut Indian Premier League campaign. They have secured victories in eight of their 12 matches. With 16 points and net run rate of +0.385, they are second in the table, just behind Gujarat Titans.
LSG went on a streak of 4 consecutive wins before it came to an end against Gujarat Titans in the previous match. Their opponents came out on top in that top of the table affair. While GT’s total of 144, achieved courtesy of Shubman Gill’s composed half century, looked several runs short of par, the GT bowling unit swung the course of the match back in their favour.
Rashid Khan picked up a four-wicket haul while Sai Kishore and Yash Dayal scalped a couple of wickets each to bundle out LSG for 82, thus securing a 62-run win. For LSG, only three players managed to get into double digits with the bat.
Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, have suffered three losses in their last five games and will be hoping to achieve more consistency. They are 3rd in the table behind GT and LSG and have won seven of their 12 matches so far. RR are level on points with Royal Challengers Bangalore on 14 points but have a much better net run rate of +0.228.
Rajasthan Royals have suffered in the absence of Shimron Hetmyer recently. Batting first against Delhi Capitals, they failed to assert their authority and despite Ravichandran Ashwin’s maiden IPL half century, they could only manage a score of 160/6 with Chetan Sakariya, Mitchell Marsh and Anrich Nortje picking up a couple of wickets each. Heroes of Australia T20 World Cup triumph Mitchell Marsh and David Warner then led the run chase with fantastic half centuries as DC got past the line with eight wickets in hand.
The two sides have squared off only once before. They met earlier this season when Rajasthan Royals won by three runs on the final ball of the contest.
Wins: Lucknow Super Giants 0, Rajasthan Royals 1
Last 5 matches: Lucknow Super Giants 0, Rajasthan Royals 1
This is a difficult result to predict beforehand. Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants have been two of the best teams in IPL 2022 and have been quite consistent. Both RR and LSG are arriving into this after suffering losses in their respective previous matches.
Both sides have plenty of superstars in the squad who can take the game away from the opposition. Ultimately, the winner might be decided by who takes their chances better during the course of the game.
For Lucknow Super Giants, captain KL Rahul is expected to hold most of the cards. The likes of Quinton De Kock, Deepak Hooda, and Ayush Badoni have also done immensely well. Avesh Khan And Dushmantha Chameera continue to wreak havoc with pace while Ravi Bishnoi is quickly becoming a world-class leg-spin prospect.
For Rajasthan Royals all eyes will be on their batting unit comprising stars like Devdutt Padikkal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and led by the great Jos Buttler who has been the most in-form batter in IPL. They will miss the services of Hetmyer who has left the bio-bubble to attend the birth of his first child. Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin, Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult will also be players to watch out for.
Yuzvendra Chahal has easily been one of the best acquisitions in the IPL this season and he has been magical so far for RR. Chahal leads the Purple Cap list with 23 wickets from 12 matches and he also grabbed four wickets in the previous match against Lucknow Super Giants.
KL Rahul, Quinton De Kock, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan are expected to be in contention to win the man of the match award. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal and Trent Boult could be key for RR.
KL Rahul has been the second-best batsman in IPL 2022 after Jos Buttler. He has piled up two centuries already with both of them arriving against MI. He is second in the Orange Cap race with 459 runs from 12 matches at an average of over 45. Rahul also has a commanding strike rate close to 140.
Jos Buttler is the most in-form batsman in the Indian Premier League and he has already slammed three centuries so far. He comfortably leads the Orange Cap standings with 625 runs from 12 games and has been essential to RR’s success in IPL 2022 so far. Buttler has a humongous average and strike rate of 56.82 and 149.88 respectively.
