Lucknow Super Giants will take on Delhi Capitals in the 15th match of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Lucknow Super Giants have won two of their three IPL matches so far while Delhi Capitals have won one and lost once.
Despite losing their very first match in IPL history, Lucknow Super Giants have shown strong resolve to bounce back. They went on to record impressive wins over CSK and SRH in their most recent matches. Against the four-time IPL champions, Quinton de Kock and Evin Lewis important knocks while Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni finished the game in style while chasing a score of over 200.
LSG recorded their second win on the trot in the most recent match against SRH. KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda’s half-centuries propelled them to a score of 169/7. While Rahul Tripathi and Nicholas Pooran led the resistance for SRH, they failed to answer the questions asked by Avesh Khan. Avesh finished with a sensational four-wicket-haul to tilt the game back in his side’s favour as Jason Holder finished it off in style with three wickets in the final over.
LSG are now fifth in the table having won two of their three matches. They have four points and a net run rate of +0.193.
Delhi Capitals began their IPL 2022 season with an impressive last-gasp win over Mumbai Indians. Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel secured the victory in sensational fashion for the side. However, they were unable to sustain the momentum going into the second match against Gujarat Titans and lost by 14 runs.
Titans were led by Shubman Gill’s outrageous knock of 84 off 46 as they posted 171 runs on the board. Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi with a spell of 3/23. Delhi Capitals stuttered during the run-chase and lost three wickets inside the powerplay itself. Although captain Rishabh Pant tried leading the charge, he wasn’t able to steer his side to victory.
DC occupy the sixth spot in the IPL 2022 table and are just behind LSG. They still have two points and a net run rate of +0.065.
The two teams have never played an IPL match before and therefore, have no head-to-head record so far.
Wins: Lucknow Super Giants 0, Delhi Capitals 0
Last 5 matches: Lucknow Super Giants 0, Delhi Capitals 0
One can expect Lucknow Super Gaints to have a minor advantage. LSG are slowly but surely finding their footing in the tournament. Their batting unit consists of some amazing players and even the likes of Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni have done well in the middle order. Avesh Khan has led the pace unit extremely well for his side.
Delhi Capitals’ bowling unit has regressed compared to the previous years. They haven’t been able to get regular breakthroughs. The DC top order also looks weaker this time around and it would take important contributions from Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant to secure the batting lineup.
For Lucknow Super Giants all eyes will be on their batting unit comprising stars like KL Rahul, Quinton De Kock, Evin Lewis, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni. Avesh Khan’s pace-bowling prowess is formidable while Ravi Bishnoi is quickly becoming a world-class leg-spin prospect.
Delhi Capitals will depend heavily on captain Rishabh Pant who will be tasked with executing captain Ricky Ponting’s instructions on the field. Pant has also been in red-hot form with the bat lately and will be hoping to brush aside his poor dismissal from the first match. Prithvi Shaw is always a menace in powerplay overs while the likes of Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel are also expected to make a difference.
Avesh Khan is arriving into this game after picking up four wickets in the last match against SRH. Only Harshal Patel has scalped more IPL wickets than Avesh since the beginning of 2021. He will be an important player to look out for,
KL Rahul, Quinton De Kock, Evin Lewis and Avesh Khan are expected to be in contention for the man of the match award. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur are also likely to be in the running.
KL Rahul has been one of the top run-scorers in the Indian Premier League and over the last four years, he has crossed the 550-run mark every season. However, Rahul’s strike rate has dipped from 158.41 in 2018 and to strike rate in the 120s and 130s. Rahul has scored 108 runs in three matches so far but needs to adopt a more aggressive approach.
Prithvi Shaw is one of those players who can decide a match in the powerplay itself. Shaw has an excellent IPL strike rate of over 146 and will be looking for a longer stay at the crease.
