Delhi Capitals will collide with Lucknow Super Giants in the 45th match of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Both Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals are involved in the fight for the playoff places and they are separated by four points in the IPL 2022 table.
Delhi Capitals have suffered from a lack of consistency this season. They haven’t been able to follow up a single win with another victory. Despite that, they have won four of their eight matches and have eight points to their bank. They are sixth in the table with a net run rate of +0.695 and trail the likes of Sunrisers, Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore by a couple of points.
DC are arriving into this match after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders for the second time this season. Former KKR bowler Kuldeep Yadav rain riot through the batting unit once again and with the help of a four-wicket-haul, restricted KKR to a below par total of 146/9. Opener David Warner led proceedings with a fantastic knock of 42 runs while Rovman Powell and Axar Patel sealed the win in the penultimate over by four wickets.
In their maiden Indian Premier League campaign, Lucknow Super Giants have done pretty well. They have won six of their nine matches and are currently third in the table with 12 points and a net run rate of +0.408. They have won four of their last six matches and are heading into this game on a strong run of form.
Lucknow Super Giants defeated Mumbai Indians by 36 runs and Punjab Kings by 20 runs in the most recent game. Batting first, it was a one man show from captain KL Rahul, who remained not out on 103 and piled up yet another century against MI.
Despite his commanding knock, Lucknow could only manage a total of 168. However, their bowlers were on song and managed to get the job done. Besides Rohit Sharma and Tilak Verma, nobody from the Mumbai Indians camp managed to make a mark in the match.
The two teams have played just one match against each other, earlier this season. Lucknow Super Giants defeated Delhi Capitals by six wickets on that occasion.
Wins: Delhi Capitals 0, Lucknow Super Giants 1
Last 5 matches: Delhi Capitals 0, Lucknow Super Giants 1
This might be a difficult result to predict as both sides have been in even form over the last few matches. Both DC and LSG have won three of their last five games. Lucknow Super Giants will back themselves to succeed once again as they got the better of Delhi Capitals the last time around.
DC’s batting unit was guilty of an extremely conservative approach, which is why they couldn’t get enough runs on the scoreboard. The likes of David Warner and Rovman Powell will have a major say on proceedings this time around.
David Warner and Prithvi Shaw provide a lot of impetus and security up top. However, their middle-order has looked pedestrian. DC will also rely heavily on Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, and Axar Patel.
For Lucknow Super Giants, captain KL Rahul is expected to hold most of the cards. The likes of Quinton De Kock, Deepak Hooda, and Ayush Badoni have also done immensely well. Avesh Khan continues to wreak havoc with his pace while Ravi Bishnoi is quickly becoming a world-class leg-spin prospect.
Kuldeep Yadav has raised his game in IPL this season and he is second in the Purple Cap race with 17 wickets from eight games. Kuldeep picked up four-wicket-hauls on both occasions against Kolkata Knight Riders and has been in extremely good form.
Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Rishabh Pant, and Kuldeep Yadav could prove to be in contention for the man of the match award. Meanwhile, KL Rahul, Quinton De Kock, Krunal Pandya, and Avesh Khan are also expected to be in the running.
Prithvi Shaw is one of those players who can decide a match in the powerplay itself. Shaw has an excellent IPL strike rate of over 163 and will be looking for a longer stay at the crease. He has scored 254 runs in eight games and will be expected to succeed after getting out on a duck in the last match.
KL Rahul has been the second-best batsman in IPL 2022 after Jos Buttler. He has piled up two centuries already with both of them arriving against MI. He is second in the Orange Cap race with 368 runs from eight matches at an average of over 61. Rahul also has a commanding strike rate close to 148.
