Match Prediction – Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Renegades, 21st Match BBL 2021/222021/22

Perth Scorchers will be up against Melbourne Renegades in the 21st match of the Big Bash League 2021. The two teams have had pretty contrasting campaigns so far.

Perth Scorchers have had a flawless campaign so far and are the team. After five games in the competition, they continue to have a 100% win record. They’ve chalked up impressive and ruthless wins and their NRR of +1.710 reflects exactly that.

The Scorchers have seen both their batting and bowling units contributing at a very high level. They’ve scored above 180 runs in three of their five games so far and have also bundled out the opposition in three matches.

Melbourne Renegades began the season with a narrow win over Adelaide Strikers but they have been winless ever since. The batting unit of Renegades had come under scrutiny and although they crossed the 160-run mark for the first time in the previous match, their bowling unit was underwhelming.

Renegades suffered a serious hammering against Perth Scorchers who defeated them by 21 runs. No bowler from the side managed to keep an economy rate below 8 runs per over in that fixture. With just one win in four matches so far, Renegades are rooted to the bottom of the table. They have four points and a Net Run Rate of -1.196.

As far as the head-to-head record is concerned, Perth Scorchers command a massive advantage. Scorchers have won 12 games while Melbourne Renegades have managed only three wins. Perth Scorchers have won four of the last five matches between the two teams.

Who will win today’s match?

Perth Scorchers have been in incredible form and both their batting and bowling departments have performed at an extraordinary level. In fact, they are among the title contenders this season and early signs are extremely promising. Scorchers are expected to brush aside Melbourne Renegades who have had an extremely poor campaign once again.

Kurtis Patterson and Lance Morris returned to the Perth Scorchers squad in the previous game against Melbourne Renegades. Morris had suffered a side strain during a Sheffield Shield match last season and he spent the early part of the BBL this season recovering from the injury.

Shaun Marsh continues to be unavailable for Melbourne Renegades. They’ve missed his services at the top of the batting order. Marsh was injured during a Sheffield Shield game in November and head coach David Saker has now identified January 3, 2022 as the likely date for Marsh’s return. Renegades have made one change to their squad for the Boxing Day rematch against Perth. Jono Merlo replaces James Seymour in the extended 13-man squad.

The return of Mitchell Marsh has added more weapons to the Scorchers’ arsenal. Marsh has been in breath-taking from in white ball cricket and only a likely call up to the Australian side for the Ashes is expected to halt his juggernaut.

The returns of Aaron Finch and Nic Maddinson who batted together for the first time this season in the last game showed signs of promise. While Finch made 68 off 43, the Renegades captain amassed 67 runs off 41 deliveries. This helped the side stuck to the bottom of the table to post their highest score in BBL11 yet. Even though the match ended in a defeat, they can take positives from that effort.

Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Renegades, 21st Match BBL 2021/22

Colin Munro and Mitchell Marsh have been nothing short of incredible for the Scorchers. Andrew Tye and Ashton Agar have also performed their roles with distinction and they are an extremely well-balanced team.

For Melbourne Renegades, all eyes will be on Aaron Finch once again. Finch is one of the most destructive and experienced batters in the history of Big Bash League. He marked his return with a fine knock of 68 runs at a strike rate of 158.14 in the previous game. Nic Maddinson has also done a fine job of assisting him and plenty will depend on how the duo performs here.

Who will be the best match bowler?

Andrew Tye has been phenomenal for Perth Scorchers. He’s the leading wicket-taker in the Big Bash League as things stand this season. Tye has collected 10 wickets in five matches and has an average economy rate of 5.72.

Who will win today’s man of the match?

Mitchell Marsh has been in the form of his life recently. After steering Australia to a win in the T20 World Cup final, he marked his return to BBL11 with an unbeaten century. Marsh remained not out on 100 from 60 balls in the game against Hobart Hurricanes and he followed that up with yet another match-winning knock against Melbourne Renegades. He also got the key wicket of Nic Maddinson and is expected to win the award again.

Who will be the best batsman for Melbourne Renegades?

Aaron Finch is the second highest run-scorer in Big Bash League history. In 76 matches, he has scored 2499 runs at an average of 34.70. Finch has a strike rate of 135.15 in the competition and he chalked up yet another fabulous half-century in the previous game.
