If there’s one takeaway for the Aussies from the series so far, it’s the role that the New Zealand pitches and the familiarity that the home team players have with it has played. New Zealand have a 2-0 lead in the series and while they are fielding a full strength side unlike Australia, they have clearly been superior in all aspects so far this series.

If it was Devon Conway who set up the first win with a 99, it was Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson  in the second T20I that helped New Zealand over the line. They still needed a good bowling effort to stop the Aussies which shows the visitors aren’t still down and out of a contest.

Australia hope to salvage series

Cricket Betting

New Zealand’s strengths in T20Is of late have been the top four that they have in the line-up. With strong attacking strength and a great anchor in the middle-order, New Zealand have a diverse batting line-up that has become stronger with the addition of Devon Conway.

The South African immigrant has racked up runs for fun since arriving in New Zealand in 2017. His domestic excellence paved way to a much-awaited debut, but not before he had already been awarded a natiotteam contract before he made his debut. Conway was that good. And in the few times he has donned the Blackcaps jersey, the left-hander has shown as much.

The bowling still needs to peak with Kyle Jamieson’s transition to T20I cricket not being as smooth as New Zealand wanted it to be. Tim Southee and Trent Boult with Mitchell Santner still make it a world-class attack.

Australia, on the other hand, have a potent bowling attack even with the big guns missing. Jhye Richardson and Kane Richardson alongside Daniel Sams and Ashton Agar make Australia a complete T20I bowling unit with variety. Where they are coming short is experience and it has hurt them in the two games where they struggled to put a leash on the home batsmen.

MATCH EVENT TOP MARKETS

Team news: New Zealand

New Zealand are likely to stick to the team that won them the two matches. But they might also be pondering a swap in the bowling attack with Jamieson’s floundering returns. Hamish Bennett could come in for Jamieson. He also adds variety in the death where Tim Southee has been leaking runs and Jimmy Neesham has primarily been stop-gap.

Team news: Australia

Australia have a variety of options up their sleeve and will want to shuffle things a bit. Andrew Tye could come in for Kane Richardson, while Tanveer Sangha might be handed a debut in Adam Zampa’s stead to give the New Zealand batting line-up a fresh challenge. Riley Meredith is another option up the sleeve to restrict the Kiwis batsmen in the death.

Predicted XI

AUS: Matthew Wade (wk), Aaron Finch (c), Josh Philippe, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Ashton Agar, Daniel Sams, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa/Tanveer Sangha.

NZ: Martin Guptill, Tim Seifert (wk), Kane Williamson (c), Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Hamish Bennett, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult

Key players

Martin Guptill: An in-forn Martin Guptill is always dangerous and Australia found that out in Dunedin as he struck a belligerent knock. Unlike before, New Zealand’s top-order is phenomenal and a strong start from New Zealand’s swashbuckling opener could mean a lot more for the middle-order batsmen who are more than capable of taking advantage of the platform. If Guptill fires, it will be really difficult to stop the Kiwis.

Matthew Wade: Australia’s equivalent of Guptill is Matthew Wade. The opener has time and again showed how impactful he can be in T20s when opening the innings. He was on fire in the Big Bash League and has now looked to give Australia some good starts. After firing in the India series, Wade will be itching to make an impact here.
