The Asian rivals Pakistan and Bangladesh will face each other in the 31st match of the ongoing Cricket World Cup at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The venue witnessed 229 runs being defended by the Netherlands in its first game of the World Cup on Saturday (October 28) and it could be yet another low-scoring thriller between the two teams.
Both teams are in a mess at the moment as Bangladesh have been more or less knocked out of the tournament while Pakistan are on the brink. The Tigers have gone down in five out of six matches thus far and Babar Azam’s are on a four-match losing streak with their latest defeat coming against South Africa by one wicket.
Pakistan began their World Cup campaign with wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. Perhaps, against Sri Lanka, they won chasing down record 345 runs. But things haven’t worked for them since and have lost matches against India, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa.
Their latest loss to South Africa came in a thriller but the earlier defeats were absolutely tame. Nevertheless, Pakistan’s hopes are still hanging by a thread unlike Bangladesh and will be keen on trumping the already struggling Bangladesh in this game. As far as the playing XI is concerned, there shouldn’t be any changes to the line-up
Even though his strike-rate has been a talking point in this tournament, Babar Azam has been the best batsman for Pakistan in terms of consistency.
The man has led from the front smashing three half-centuries so far but has got very little support from the other end. The onus will once again be on Babar to step up for his side in this must-win clash.

Shaheen Afridi is an emotion when he steams in and raps the ball on the pads. The same fighting Shaheen was in the middle against the Proteas as he returned with figures of 3/45 in 10 overs. Pakistan will need their best bowler to shine in this hour of need for Pakistan cricket.

Bangladesh just went from bad to worse on Saturday (October 28). They capitulated against the Netherlands who were just exceptional defending 229 runs against them. Bangladesh’s batting has struggled right through the competition including veteran Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim.
It has been a proper mess and certainly, the team seems to have got affected with a lot of things happening off the field in Bangladesh cricket recently with Tamim Iqbal not featuring in this World Cup.
Shakib Al Hasan is hands down the best for Bangladesh even in his toughest phase. The man went back to Dhaka before the game against the Netherlands to work on his batting with his mentor.
However, the efforts didn’t reap immediate rewards. Having said that, the onus of lifting the spirits with the bat remains with the skipper and he will have to lead from the front.

Taskin Ahmed might have just returned from injury but he bowled well against the Dutch returning with figures of 2/43 in his 10 overs. Bangladesh will need one more such spell from him especially with the new ball to make early inroads into the Pakistan line-up.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Clearly, it is not easy to predict the player of the match before the game starts. But then, Babar Azam is due for a big knock and with Pakistan in big trouble in terms of semifinal qualification, their next game against Bangladesh becomes a huge one and the Pakistan skipper is expected to go big against the struggling Bangladesh.
The Eden Gardens in Kolkata saw its first match being won by the team batting first. Netherlands defended 229 runs pretty comfortably against Bangladesh. Even though the records at the venue state something else, the team winning the toss will be tempted to bat first.
The match between Pakistan and Bangladesh is set to be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This is the second match at the venue for this match and should be a decent one to bat on.
241 is the average score at this venue and the pitch keeps batters and bowlers interested. As for weather, there is no chance of rain whatsoever during the match.
Pakistan are the clear favourties looking at the head to head record between them in ODIs. But Bangladesh are certain to put up a fight and it should be an interesting contest in Kolkata.
