The Afghanistan tour of Sri Lanka 2023/24 turned out to be rather one-sided but exciting nonetheless, especially the superb performance from the Sri Lankan squad. Afghanistan squad has yet to find their rhythm and fight back to avoid a whitewash before they move on to the T20I series.
The newly appointed captain Kusal Mendis’s leadership is going well for Sri Lanka. This is the last ODI match between these teams before the T20I series starts so who will win today's match?
Sri Lanka's ODI series performance is a testament to their strong batting and bowling abilities. The team's impressive start was highlighted in the first match, where they set a record of 381 runs. Pathum Nissanka, who broke the record for the most runs scored in boundaries (128), contributed 210 runs to his team's total.
Pramod Madushan, the leading wicket-taker, secured 5 wickets in the first two matches, while Wanindu Hasaranga took 4 wickets in the second match. The team's combination of experienced and emerging talents has created a dynamic and adaptable squad capable of winning the 3rd ODI with ease.
Charith Asalanka is the clear favorite to earn the title of best batter in the third One-Day Odi. He bats in the middle order with a goal to fill, and Sri Lanka has benefited much from his reliable Batting.
Asalanka applauded the batting-friendly pitch, where the third ODI will take place, after hitting 97* (74) and winning player of the match in the second ODI. It is reasonable to assume cricket odds that he will continue to smash the ball and earn the best batter title in the next game.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
The outstanding, recently appointed Sri Lankan right-arm medium-fast bowler Pramod Madushan is probably going to be the finest bowler in the third ODI. The Afghani Team is still uncertain of his bowling pace and style. Thus, he presents a threat to the hitters.
He claimed four wickets in the first ODI and one in the second ODI with his deft fast delivery. With only eight career wickets under his belt, he is a young bowler who is expected to grab more wickets to come.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Afghanistan has sustained an awful setback in the One-Day International (ODI) format. In the second match, the bowlers gave it their all, trying to contain Sri Lanka within 300 runs but failed, taking six wickets in the process. Rahmanullah Gurbaz getting out of the game in the first few overs might be a major issue that the Afghan team has to avoid.
While Azmatullah Omarzai's performance in the opening game was praiseworthy, the middle-order hitters should be more mindful of their time spent on the pitch. Winning the third game would be difficult for the Afghans unless captain Hashmatullah Shahidi has a plan.
Ibrahim Zadran is likely to be the best batter from Afghanistan. As a top-order batsman, he took the lead in the 2nd match and scored 54 runs with 6 boundaries. His career total in ODI is 1345 runs, and his shot selection on the pitch is very tactful.
Although he performed poorly in the 1st match, he made up for it in the 2nd and according to our cricket betting tips he’s likely to be the best batter in the upcoming match as well.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
The young Afghan bowler Azmatullah Omarzai can presumably be the finest bowler next match because of his high-speed deliveries with a deft right arm that are difficult for Sri Lanka to deal with.
It's noteworthy that he took three wickets in the second match and gave up just 56 runs in ten overs. Afghanistan may find his balanced delivery helpful during the initial powerplay where batters play safely.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
With his superb batting performance, Charith Asalanka is probably going to be named Player of the Match; his 97-run innings in the second ODI match give him the right to be named Player of the Match.
With the bat, he remains cool and collected, and he lasts the entire innings to form if only briefly, a partnership with a middle-order player. With his brilliant batting, he's most likely to dominate the third game, get a century, and win Player of the Match.
According to today's toss prediction, the winning side will almost certainly decide to field first, as we have seen from both teams in the previous games in this ODI series. To win, Afghanistan must decide to field first and try to limit Sri Lanka to 250 runs.
The 3rd T20I is scheduled to start around 3:00 PM on 14th February, Wednesday at the same venue, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Batters are often favored in this pitch in the first powerplay, as Asalanka said in a press conference after the last match because they can find some swing from the wicket.
The weather on matchday should be Partly sunny and pleasant, around 31°; there is almost no chance of Rain with a 7% probability of Precipitation. It's going to be a very sunny day with a very High Max UV Index of 10.
Our analyst predicts that Sri Lanka will win the third One-day International. They have broken records in the previous games, and it would be difficult for Afghanistan to stop their explosive batting at their home ground.
With little pressure on them, Sri Lanka will probably outperform Afghanistan with their composed performance.
