The stage is set for the Playoffs of Pakistan Super League 2024, with Multan Sultans locking horns against Peshawar Zalmi in Qualifier 1 on March 14 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
The Multan Sultans seemed to be in a bit of shaky form heading into the final leg of the tournament, but they announced themselves back in contention with a thumping victory in their last match against Quetta Gladiators.
Peshawar Zalmi have been one of the most consistent teams in the tournament and they also have the credentials of being the only team to beat Multan Sultans twice in the group stages, which they will be banking on in this all-important clash.
Multan Sultans have won seven matches out of 10 in the group stage to finish on top of the points table. Six of those victories came in the opening seven matches, but two consecutive defeats after that set them slightly on the backfoot.
However, their super-strong batting line-up has surpassed many hurdles this season and their bowling too has not been very bad, except for the match against Islamabad United, where they failed to defend 228 runs. They will be heading into this with brimming confidence, but also with a tinge of caution.
Mohammad Rizwan is one of Pakistan’s senior most batters in the current crop and his credentials in the shortest format are world-renowned.
He has had a great tournament so far and just when the stakes were extremely high for the team, he chipped in with a majestic knock for the team, smashing 69 off 47 balls against Quetta Gladiators in the last match. One can vouch for him to put up a big performance in this big game for the team.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
As per today's cricket betting tips, Usama Mir has been in top form throughout the season and is a top contender to be the highest wicket-taker of PSL 2024. He is currently in the top spot with 21 wickets in 10 matches, which have come at an average of only 15.67. He returned with terrific figures in the last match, picking up 3/22 in four overs.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Peshawar Zalmi nearly finished the tournament on top of the table, but it wasn’t meant to be. However, they have managed to grab a ticket to the elusive Qualifier 1 and have rightfully earned these credentials, with six wins in 10 matches.
Babar Azam has led this side by example and helped them through, despite the side losing their opening two matches. Form wise, they are a force to reckon with in this contest.
Babar Azam is the one sole batter in the tournament with over 400 runs. With 498 runs in nine matches, he is a whisker away from 500 runs and also a whopping 132 runs ahead of the second-best batter of the tournament, who happens to be his opposite number in the Qualifier 1, Mohammad Rizwan. Babar Azam has got these runs at a spectacular average of 62.25 and is likely to chip in with another big knock.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
English pacer Luke Wood has been one of their best pacers in the tournament. With 11 wickets in nine matches, Wood has consistently troubled batters with his pace and emerged with some clutch wickets at the right time for Peshawar Zalmi. According to our cricket odds, he could be the best bowler for Zalmi in this match.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Babar Azam’s exemplary run of form in PSL 2024 has been one of the biggest talking points of the tournament, which once again showcased the world how consistent he can be.
The Pakistan international captain has been at his best, smacking big runs with effortless ease in the few matches he has played. With him already being the best batter of the tournament, he is a top contender to win the Player of the match as well.
As per today's cricket toss prediction, teams should opt to bat first after winning the toss. Zalmi have done better overall in the tournament and if they bat first, they could emerge victorious.
The pitch at the venue in Karachi has offered plenty of runs in the first innings for teams and both Zalmi and Sultans will look to cash in on that. If the team batting first can post in excess of 170, they can consider themselves favourites to win the match.
We can expect a very decent weather for this game, with the temperatures expected to soar above 30 degrees during match time and humidity will be over 60%.
If you are wondering who will win today's match, Peshawar Zalmi are likely to win this contest considering their overall consistency in the tournament.
