Multan Sultans are set for the reverse fixture against Peshawar Zalmi Match 21 of the Pakistan Super League on March 5 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
While Multan Sultans are top of the points table with six wins in seven matches, Peshawar Zalmi aren’t having the best of tournaments with three wins so far. However, Zalmi can take confidence out of the fact that Sultans’ only defeat in the ongoing edition was against them in the reverse fixture, where Babar Azam’s team emerged victorious by five runs.
The story has been very convenient for Multan Sultans, with their batters and bowlers chipping in with big performances. They have found a way through to win the matches on most occasions and are already playing like a team that is bound to win the championship the second time.
They are coming on the back of a magnificent victory over Karachi Kings, where Usman Khan registered the third century of PSL 2024. Although the reverse fixture didn’t go their way, they are looking set to take this one home.
South African batter Reeza Hendricks has made his mark in PSL 2024 some big knocks. He has scored 299 runs in seven matches, which includes three half-centuries so far in the tournament.
He is Sultans’ leading run-scorer of PSL 2024 and overall, he stands third in the list of highest run-getters, only behind Babar Azam and Rassie van der Dussen.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
As per our cricket betting tips, Mohammad Ali is bound to put up a big performance as he has been the best bowler for Multan Sultans in PSL 2024.
The fast bowler spearheaded Sultans to some crucial victories, notching 14 wickets in seven matches at a tremendous average of 13.14. In the reverse fixture, Ali returned with terrific figures of 2/23 in four overs, which came at an economy of 5.80.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Babar Azam’s team didn’t get off to the best of starts having lost their opening two matches, but since then, they have won three and lost only one match.
One of those three victories came against the Multan Sultans and they are carrying a little momentum with themselves, as they stand in the third position on the points table. Their last match against Lahore Qalandars was called off, so the players have had enough time to get some rest.
When you have Babar Azam in your team, the cricket betting odds are probably on him all the time to score the bulk of runs. Although the result didn’t go in their favour in their opening two matches, he has scored 140 runs in two innings - 72 off 51 balls against Karachi Kings, 68 off 42 balls against Quetta Gladiators.
He backed it up with a century Islamabad United, where he scored 111 off 63 balls. He leads the run-scoring charts in PSL 2024 with 330 runs in five matches.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Salman Irshad has been in good form so far in the tournament for Peshawar Zalmi. He has been a lethal presence with his extra pace and returned with seven wickets in five matches, which includes a best performance of three wickets against Quetta Gladiators. He picked up two big wickets of Yasir Khan and Reeza Hendricks the last time these two teams met.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Both teams have terrific star players to entertain the crowd in this fixture and it will not be an easy match to decide. However, Babar Azam has found his rhythm and could be lethal if he gets settled. He has already secured his 11th T20 century and has been on a roll in PSL 2024, but what sets him apart is his inane ability to keep scoring big runs regularly and is a top choice for the Player of the match
As per today's toss prediction, teams should opt to bat first after winning the toss. Multan Sultans are in great form and have won their previous two matches while batting first.
The pitch at the venue in Rawalpindiis expected to be tricky for the batters, but if they can watch the odd one out, they will be able to reap rewards. If the team batting first can post in excess of 170, they can consider themselves favourites to win the match.
The humidity will be in the high 70s and the temperatures will range around 28-30 degrees during match time, very typical of a Pakistani summer and it won’t get easy for the players, especially for the overseas ones.
If you are confused who will win today's match, the team batting first has a great chance. Multan Sultans are well set for yet another victory in this contest.
