MS Dhoni is the leading run-scorer in ODIs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The veteran Indian batter, who retired from international cricket back in August 2020, has scored 401 runs from six matches at an average of 100.25 and a strike-rate of 101.77 with two hundreds and one fifty to his name.
Back on December 30, 2012, Dhoni scored 113 runs off 125 balls with seven fours and three sixes. He won the Player of the Match award despite India losing to Pakistan by sixes. Dhoni came to the party after India were reduced to 29 for the loss of five wickets in 9.4 overs.
Dhoni is also the only batter with multiple ODI hundreds at the Chepauk. Among current batter, Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer, having notched 337 runs from eight matches at an average of 42.12 and a strike-rate of 85.53 with one century and three half-centuries to his name.
Bangladesh left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique is the top wicket-taker at the Chepauk with eight scalps to his name. Among Indians, Ajit Agarkar and Harbhajan Singh have picked up seven wickets apiece at the Chepauk. Dhoni and former Sri Lankan batter Mahela Jayawardene hold the record for the highest partnership in ODIs at the Chepauk. Back on June 10, 2007, Dhoni and Jayawardene lit up the Chepauk while playing for Asia XI against Africa XI in the Afro Asia Cup.
The duo put on 2018 runs for the sixth wicket. Dhoni went on to stay not out on 139 off 97 balls with 15 fours and five sixes. He won the Player of the Match award after Asia XI beat Africa XI by 13 runs. Jayawardene also scored 107 runs off 106 balls with nine fours and two sixes. It does not come as a surprise that Dhoni is among the most popular sporting figures in Chennai.
