The ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to get underway on February 17. The second match of the season is set to take place on February 18 between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators as both teams will start their campaign as well.
The match will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and will commence at 2:30 PM IST. Peshawar Zalmi made it to the playoffs last year at the fourth position.
They lost to Lahore Qalandars in the Eliminator and will be keen on going one step ahead this time around.
As for the Quetta Gladiators, they have changed their captain for the first time as Sarfaraz Ahmed will not be leading the team this season. Rilee Rossouw will be looking forward to leading the team to the trophy in this edition.
Who will win today’s match? We will answer this question in this article next:
Peshawar Zalmi will be led by Babar Azam again and after giving away Pakistan’s captaincy, he will be looking to lead from the front in this tournament.
Zalmi is also one of the team’s affected by overseas players’ availability for the season but they have assembled a good team overall and will be keen on starting their season on a high.
Babar Azam has to be the man standing up for Peshawar Zalmi in their season opener. He smashed 115 in the previous face-off against the Gladiators and is also one of the players who bats big in T20 cricket after opening the innings.
A lot will depend on how Babar bats and at what pace in this encounter if the Zalmi have to start their tournament with a win.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Khurram Shahzad recently made his international debut on Australia tour. He did well to pick up five wickets in the game and even in the opening game for Peshawar, his job will be to click with the new ball. The Gladiators possess of a lot of aggressive batters and all eyes will be Khurram as he can make the new ball talk.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Quetta Gladiators have not made it to the playoffs since 2019 and mostly have ended at bottom or second from bottom in the points table in the last four years. The effect is change of captain as Rossouw has taken over the responsibility and the side will be hoping to improve their showing this time around.
Well begun is half the job done as they say and the Gladiators will be eyeing two points from their opener.
Rilee Rossouw is special for PSL having amassed 1867 runs at a brilliant strike-rate of 146.54. Though he hasn’t led in a single T20 match in his career, Rossouw will be keen on letting that affect his batting.
The left-hander has played a lot of T20 matches in his career and the Gladiators will be hoping his batting comes through for them on captaincy debut.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Mohammad Amir is the main man with the ball for the Gladiators. The left-handed bowler can swing the new ball and pick early wickets at will on his day. Amir is coming off decent outings in ILT20 while playing for Desert Vipers having picked up seven wickets in last five matches.
His performance will more or less determine the outcome of the match especially if the Gladiators are bowling first.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
The aforementioned cricket betting tips will help you in determining the player of the match award winner for this match. There are no favourites yet as both teams are starting their season but Babar and Rossouw can end up making a match-winning impact.
Our toss prediction for the second match of PSL between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators is that the team winning the toss will bowl first. The surface will be absolutely flat and no score is safe as it was evident during the last season.
Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host this match, the second of the season having played hosts to the season opener a day ago. A score in excess of 200 is expected from both sides. The cricket odds will be balanced to start with even as the weather is expected to be clear for the duration of the match.
Peshawar Zalmi have been on a winning run against the Gladiators over the last few seasons and they are expected to win this match. The Gladiators will no doubt come out hard but might fall short in the end.
