The 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians on Thursday (April 18). The clash is scheduled to take place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh and will commence at 7:30 PM IST.
Both teams are coming off a loss in their respective previous outing with PBKS going down to Rajasthan Royals while the five-time champions lost to their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings in thriller.
Both Punjab and Mumbai have won only two out of six matches and are in desperate need of two points to climb up in the points table.
Match prediction today will follow next in the article with the detailed analysis of both sides in action:
Punjab Kings’ three out of four losses this season have come in the last over. This means that the team is losing in crunch moments and have it in them to turn around their season in the upcoming games.
However, their skipper Shikhar Dhawan’s fitness is a concern and he is likely to sit out of this game too. The likes of Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone will have to step up with the bat up the order with Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma doing their job perfectly.
Jonny Bairstow has been surprisingly out of form in IPL 2024. If he gets going, no bowler can stop him and the time has come for the England batter to start clicking now.
Bairstow has so far scored 96 runs in six matches so far with 42 being his highest score. He has shown glimpses of returning to form and could only be a matter of time before he smacks a big one.

Arshdeep Singh is slowly returning to his best. The left-arm pacer is picking up wickets consistently now after a slow start to the season and has so far accounted for nine scalps in six matches.
He has sent down 22.1 overs so far and has conceded runs at an economy of 9.24 which is on the higher side but Arshdeep also bowls tough overs and as long as he is picking wickets, Punjab might not fret over his economy much.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
After playing some back to back matches at home, Mumbai Indians are set to be on the road for four consecutive matches with Mullanpur being the first stop. The five-time champions will have to adapt to the conditions accordingly and start winning consistently now to have any chance of making it to the playoffs.
Rohit Sharma’s form is a massive positive for them but other batters including skipper Hardik Pandya will have to contribute while the bowlers, barring Jasprit Bumrah, also need to be executing their skills properly to keep a lid on the opposition batters.
No doubt Rohit Sharma has to be the man to step up and carry Mumbai Indians’ batting once again. He is coming off a century in the last game, albeit in a losing cause, and is in great touch at the moment.
Rohit has so far scored 261 runs in six matches at an average of 52.2 and a strike rate of 167.3 with 15 sixes to his name. MI will hope that their former captain showcases his ability to go big once again and win it for them this time around.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Jasprit Bumrah is the only standout bowler at the moment in Mumbai Indians line-up. Oppositions are only trying to play him out due to his quality and the ability to nail his yorkers. The man has picked up 10 wickets so far and his economy of 6.08 is one of the best this season as well.
Bumrah already has a five-wicket haul to his name in IPL 2024 and against PBKS, he will have to add more wickets to his tally if MI are to add two points to their name.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
The aforementioned free cricket betting tips will help you in making informed decisions related to the match between PBKS and MI. In terms of the player of the match award winner, it is very much possible that Bumrah will win it picking up a heap of wickets yet again. He has so far accounted for 10 scalps and can certainly add more to his tally against the underperforming PBKS batters.
Our expert toss prediction for the PBKS vs MI clash is that the team winning the toss would look to bowl first. Chasing has been the trend not only in Mullanpur but also through this IPL season among teams. It should continue in this match as well with dew expected to play a role again.
Mullanpur is hosting IPL matches for the first time this season and has already witnessed three matches being played here. Two of them have been won by chasing sides with all three of them being the final over thrillers. The last game saw 148 being chased only in the 20th over by Rajasthan Royals.
This time around though the surface could be a good one with the par score being 170-180. Today’s cricket betting odds will be in favour of Mumbai Indians given their quality even as it is predicted to be cloudy with no chance of rain during the match. The temperature will be around 32 Degrees Celsius in the evening.
Mumbai Indians seem to be a much more settled team compared to Punjab Kings and hence the five-time champions are expected to win this match. MI also have the firepower right through their line-up while PBKS batters are struggling to get their act together right now.
