Adelaide Strikers are a professional T20 cricket franchise based out of Adelaide, Australia. They are a part of Big Bash League (BBL), the official T20 cricket league in Australia, since its inception in season 2011-12.

Adelaide Strikers have had mixed success in BBL so far in the first 9 seasons. They have won the championship once beating Hobart Hurricanes in the finals of season 2017-2018 which was the seventh season of BBL as known as BBL|07.

In the 90 games played so far, Adelaide Strikers have won 47 matches and lost 40 matches while 3 matches resulted in no-result. Their winning percentage of 54% is fourth-highest among 8 franchises.

Their recent history is on similar lines as that of the overall record with 5 wins in the last 10 games. The strikers would want to get to winning ways right away in BBL|10.

The famous Adelaide Oval is Strikers’ home ground which has a sitting capacity of over 50,000. They are the only franchise apart from Perth Scorchers who have a single home venue.

Travis Head captains the team whereas the former Australian international cricketer, and a lethal fast bowler, Jason Gillespie is their head coach.

Adelaide start BBL 10 against Hobart Hurricanes with two back to back matches. The Strikers have second-highest winning percentage (58.33%) against Hobart Hurricanes with 7 wins in 12 games with one washout. This is the same team the Strikers had beaten in the final back in 2017 to clinch the championship.

They would love to continue the good record against the Hurricanes. They play Sydney Sixers next against whom they have won 5 and lost 5 matches so far in BBL with one match resulting in no-result.

Adelaide Strikers have won 5 and lost 4 matches so far against Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars each. They have a phenomenal record against Melbourne Renegades with 70% winning percentage – 7 wins in 10 matches. They have won 50% matches against Sydney Thunder in the 10 matches that yielded a result with one washout.

The Strikers played the most number of matches against Perth Scorchers. In the 14 matches so far between the two teams, both teams are at 7 wins each. It will be interesting to see if the Strikers will be able to get ahead of the Scorchers after a couple of matches in this season.

Adelaide Strikers Team

In the first three seasons, the Adelaide Strikers team failed to reach the knock-out phase. Then, in the two consecutive seasons in 2014-15 and 2015-16, they managed to bounce back strongly to top the group after the league stage. However, the Strikers ended both these seasons with a loss in the first semi-final.

Season 2016-17 proved to be yet another lacklustre one when they failed to reach the knock-out stage. Despite that the Strikers were rated the most entertaining team that season.

Adelaide Strikers played their best so far in season 2017-18 where they went all the way to clinch the trophy – their only championship in this competition so far.

The Strikers could not reach knock-outs in the 8th season in 2018-19. In the last season, they did manage to get into the playoffs but lost to Sydney Thunder in the knockout match.

The New Year Clash – abbreviated as the NYE Clash – has become part of the BBL tradition where Adelaide Strikers host a home match on 31st December. Till the 8th edition, the Strikers maintained a 6-0 record in NYE clash. Though last year, in BBL|09, they lost to Sydney Thunders by 3 runs.

The Striker’s team for this season looks pretty balanced. They are captained by international player Travis Head at the top of the batting along with Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey which makes Adelaide Strikers a formidable batting unit.

The presence of Rashid Khan makes it one of the better bowling attacks. Ben Laughlin and Michael Nasser provide solidity to the bowling unit and have been among the wickets.

In a bid to make the bowling unit stronger, the Strikers have recently added two left-arm bowlers to the squad namely Danny Briggs – a spinner from England and Spencer Johnson – an Aussie fast-medium pacer.

They have also re-signed the bowlers such as Liam O’Conner, Harry Conway and Wes Agar. Michael Neser is their only noticeable all-rounder in the squad. Rashid khan can be a handy bat at times.
