Match Prediction – RCB vs RR, 16th Match IPL 2021 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?
After remaining unbeaten in the Chennai leg, the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are out to conquer Mumbai. They play a couple of games at the Wankhede Stadium before flying out. They face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match number 16 to kickstart their Mumbai leg.
RCB have been excellent in the three games that they have played so far. They are the only team to have not lost a game in this tournament so far. In each of the three games, they had different players stepping up and they’ve had three different players winning the man of the match award. The three-time finalists hunted down 160 in their first game before defending scores of 149 and 204 successfully.
The death bowling has been top-notch and Harshal Patel, in particular, has been highly impressive. Mohammed Siraj has been superb with the new ball, in the middle and at the back end. Kyle Jamieson has been expensive but he has chipped away with a few wickets. The spinners have been decent as well. Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers have led the batting charge and Virat Kohli has got a couple of decent starts. Now, the key for RCB will be adapting to the new venues and continuing the good work. They’ve never had such a start before and hence, they will do well not to get carried away.
Meanwhile, RR have been very inconsistent. The bowling has blown hot and cold and they’ve been expensive at the death once again. The absence of Jofra Archer has hurt them quite a bit and barring that game against Delhi where they picked wickets in heap at the top, the overall bowling attack has lacked some bite.
The batting seems to be over-reliant on Jos Buttler at the top of the order. Sanju Samson’s inconsistency hasn’t helped. The RR skipper did smash a ton in the first game but with two low scores, his perennial problem of inconsistency has just continued. David Miller’s form will also be the key. Hence, RR will be desperate to turn things around.
RR and RCB have a neck and neck head to head record. Both teams have won 10 games apiece. In 2020, it was RCB who won both the encounters.

RCB will make a change or two to their combination as this is their first game in Mumbai. It is less likely to assist the spinners and hence, either of Washington Sundar or Shahbaz Ahmed might sit out. Meanwhile, Dan Christian might slot back into the side. If Daniel Sams is match fit, he might come into consideration as well.

Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the entire IPL 2021 due to a fractured finger. Meanwhile, Jofra Archer continues to be absent as he recovers from a hand injury. Liam Livingstone has flown back home and will miss the rest of the season due to bio-bubble fatigue. Thus, RR are left with just five overseas players in their ranks at the moment.

Mohammed Siraj: Mohammed Siraj has been excellent with the ball in this IPL 2021. The Hyderabad-born fast bowler has led this RCB pace attack admirably and has looked threatening almost every time he has come on to bowl. He may have picked up just two wickets in three games but the lines and lengths that he has bowled have been impeccable. Siraj has bowled 37 dot balls (in 11 overs). Moreover, he has improved quite a bit at the death. Hence, with RCB moving to Mumbai, there is some nip around with the new ball and Siraj’s spell might be crucial at the top.
Jos Buttler: Jos Buttler has looked pretty good in this tournament. He has scores of 25, 2 and 49 so far and is striking at 138.18. However, the England wicket-keeper batsman just hasn’t been able to convert these starts into big knocks and that has slightly hurt RR. However, he is a match-winner at the top of the order and he is one of the few experienced batters in that RR line-up. Thus, Buttler’s form will be the key for RR.
