Match Prediction – RR vs MI, 51st Match IPL 2021 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?

It is match number 51 in this 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and it is a virtual knockout game. Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are placed sixth and seventh respectively on the points table, and the team that loses this game may well be on the brink of elimination.

RR are coming off an excellent win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) where the Sanju Samson-led side hunted down 190 with ease and did it with 15 balls to spare. They had made as many as four changes for the last game and it worked in their favour.

Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal have formed a potent opening pair while Samson has been quite consistent at No. 3. Their issues have been in the middle-order, but Shivam Dube and Glenn Phillips have showed some promise in the last game.

The bowling has blown hot and cold, but RR will be hoping they can carry the confidence and momentum from the last game and make one final push.

On the other hand, MI have just not turned up in this UAE leg of the tournament. They have just one win from their last five encounters and their chances of qualifying for the playoffs are hanging by a thread.

At the moment, it is in their own hands. They need to win both their remaining games in order to stay in contention and also, need to improve their net run rate. MI’s batting has been the issue.

While the openers haven’t converted their starts, the middle-order hasn’t really contributed much. In the only game the middle-order fired, MI ended up on the winning side. Meanwhile, the bowling has been quite good.

Team News

Rajasthan Royals

RR made wholesale changes for the game against CSK and most of them worked in their favour. Kartik Tyagi is the only one who might make a comeback into the side in place of Akash Singh. Apart from that, the rest of the playing XI is likely to remain unchanged.

Mumbai Indians

MI brought in Jayant Yadav in place of Rahul Chahar in the last game against DC. Considering the number of left-handers (five) in the RR top seven, the off-spinning will most probably retain his place in the side. The rest of the line-up will remain the same.

Predicted XI

Rajasthan Royals: Evin Lewis, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Shivam Dube, Glenn Phillips, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Akash Singh/Kartik Tyagi, Mayank Markande, Chetan Sakariya, Mustafizur Rahman

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Saurabh Tiwary, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jayant Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult

Key players

Sanju Samson: Sanju Samson has been batting really well this season. The RR skipper has been the rock in that wobbly and inconsistent batting line-up. He has amassed 480 runs at an average of 48.00 and has a strike-rate of 139.53.

In the last game against CSK, Samson may not have got a big score but his 28 steadied the ship and he rotated strike nicely which allowed the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube to explode at the other end.

Samson has a good record against MI, scoring 488 runs at a strike-rate of 141.45 and has recorded five half-centuries against them as well.

Quinton de Kock: Quinton de Kock hasn’t really taken off this season. The left-handed wicket-keeper batsman has remained inconsistent, and he just hasn’t been able to convert his starts.

In the UAE leg, he has gone past 15 in every single innings, but he has recorded only one half-century which came against KKR. With the MI middle-order not in the best of forms, de Kock’s conversion at the top will be crucial.

He also has a solid record against RR. De Kock has mustered 313 runs at an average of 52.16 while striking at 142.27 and he has three fifties in seven innings against them.
