Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are two of the four teams that move to Ahmedabad for their next set of matches.
DC are coming on the back of a thrilling Super Over win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The Rishabh Pant-led side came out triumphant and unbeaten out of their Chennai leg, winning both games. They broke the MI hoodoo before pulling out a game in the Super Over to move to the second spot on the points table. These two wins came on the back of a couple of comfortable run-chases in Mumbai.
The DC top-order has performed well and they have stepped up more often than not. Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant have all made important contributions. The lower middle-order hasn’t really had big opportunities so far. With the ball, Delhi may be concerned about Kagiso Rabada’s form. The South African has been expensive and isn’t picking wickets regularly either while Ravichandran Ashwin has just one wicket to show in five matches. Apart from that, things looked pretty good for the 2020 finalists.
It was a mighty fall for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as their four-match winning streak came to a screeching halt. However, they were completely outplayed against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and they largely lost to one man, Ravindra Jadeja. In fact, RCB did well in multiple parts of the game and were well in the contest but it was Jadeja who seized the big moments. Harshal Patel’s 37-run over cost them heavily and 192 was always going to be a stiff ask.
However, the Virat Kohli-led side have largely been very good. They won four in a four and have done most things right. Devdutt Padikkal, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers are in top form while Virat Kohli has done decently too. The bowling attack apart from a handful of overs have been top-notch as well. RCB’s worry might just be Yuzvendra Chahal’s form as the leg-spinner has managed a mere three wickets in five games. Thus, RCB will be looking to bounce back strongly and they will do well to just brush aside the loss against CSK.
As far as the head to head record is concerned, it is stacked up in RCB’s favour with a distinct advantage of 15-10. However, DC have won the last four games in this rivalry.
Team news: Delhi Capitals
Axar Patel has recovered from COVID-19 and he slotted straight back into the playing XI once he was available. DC may make a couple of tactic changes. As they head out of Chennai, Anrich Nortje may finally get a game and Steve Smith may be the overseas player who makes way. Ajinkya Rahane might slot back in at No. 3 and Amit Mishra might miss out.

Team news: Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB have no injury concerns and all players are available for this game. They might make a couple of changes to their line-up. Daniel Sams may be in with a chance of making it to the XI and might replace Daniel Christian. RCB may also look to reinforce their batting and bring in Rajat Patidar for Navdeep Saini or they may bring back Shahbaz Ahmed as their floater again.
Delhi Capitals: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Steven Smith/Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Amit Mishra/Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli (c), Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar/Shahbaz Ahmed, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers (wk), Washington Sundar, Daniel Christian/Daniel Sams, Kyle Jamieson, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal
Shikhar Dhawan: Shikhar Dhawan has been in scintillating form in the IPL over the last few seasons. His intent at the top of the order and his T20 game on the whole has gone up several notches. He has been supremely consistent ever since he moved to Delhi Capitals in 2019. The left-handed opener has started this season superbly as well and has played three match-winning knocks already. He has scored 259 runs at an average of 51.80 and a strike-rate of 142.30. Thus, Dhawan might be the key once again and every time he has scored, especially in a run-chase, Delhi have invariably found themselves in a comfortable position.
Mohammed Siraj: Mohammed Siraj has been a revelation in this IPL 2021. He may not have taken a lot of wickets but the way he has bowled has been super impressive. The Hyderabad-born fast bowler has been excellent in every stage of the game. Overall, he has picked up five wickets at an economy of 6.47. In the powerplay, Siraj has taken three wickets at an economy rate of 6. At the death, he has gone at an economy rate of 7.62. Thus, Siraj will once again be crucial to RCB’s bowling plans.
