Match Commentary
It’s been a couple of nerve-wrecking games for the Delhi Capitals. They got over the line in one and fell one run short in the other. The second was a game they could’ve wrapped up the chase well in advance if not for Rishabh Pant’s struggle. However, Shimron Hetmyer’s form has been one big positive for DC over the last few games. He walked in and wiped off a tight run-chase against Mumbai Indians a few games ago and almost pulled off a heist against Royal Challengers Bangalore with his stunning 53 off 25.
Delhi’s top-order has looked solid as well and they have been one of the reasons why they have won four out of six. Rishabh Pant’s indifferent form may be a slight worry. Meanwhile, the bowling has done well in patches. Avesh Khan has been a huge plus and he has delivered almost every game. Kagiso Rabada just seems to be getting back on track and was nailing his yorkers in the last game.
KKR ended their four-match losing streak and finally chased down a total successfully this season. Even though they were chasing a paltry total of 124, they were in trouble early on at 17/3. But Rahul Tripathi and Eoin Morgan ensured they don’t suffer another heart-breaking defeat after the bowlers had set it up beautifully. KKR’s top-order is still a big worry, Shubman Gill hasn’t fired yet while Nitish Rana’s runs have dried up after the first two successive half-centuries.
The bowling has been inconsistent but it seems like the Ahmedabad track suits this KKR attack. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy have combined to form a potent spin-bowling pair while Pat Cummins and Prasidh Krishna have been expensive at times but can rattle the batters with pace. Shivam Mavi has fit in well in the last couple of games.
KKR are marginally ahead on the head to head record. They have won 14 games while Delhi have won 12. However, Delhi have won four out of the last five encounters between these two sides.

Team News
Team news: Delhi Capitals
Ravichandran Ashwin has taken a break from this IPL 2021 as he wants to be with his family in their fight against COVID-19. Ishant Sharma replaced him in the playing XI. DC might just look at slotting in Sam Billings in place of a struggling Steve Smith.
Team news: Kolkata Knight Riders
There are no injury concerns for KKR and they are unlikely to make any changes to the winning combination.
Predicted XI
Delhi Capitals: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Steven Smith/Sam Billings, Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Kagiso Rabada, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Ishant Sharma
Kolkata Knight Riders: Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan (c), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Pat Cummins, Varun Chakravarthy, Shivam Mavi, Prasidh Krishna
Key players
The Delhi opening pair: Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw have been crucial to DC’s success this season. In each of the four games that they have won, either or both have made telling contributions. In the only game that DC lost batting first, both openers were out for single-digit scores while in the other game that they lost, Dhawan scored 6 while Shaw made 21. Thus, the DC opening pair has been magnificent and their partnerships for this season read 138, 5 (lost), 59, 11, 81 and 23 (lost). Individually, Dhawan has amassed 265 runs averaging 44.16 and striking at 140.21 while Shaw has made 187 runs at an average of 31.16 and a strike-rate of 153.27.
Shivam Mavi: Shivam Mavi has been pretty impressive in the last couple of games. The Uttar Pradesh pacer has returned with figures of 1/19 against RR and 1/13 against Punjab. Out of the eight overs he has bowled so far, six have come in the powerplay and he has conceded just 25 runs. Thus, against the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan who tend to go all guns blazing in the powerplay, Mavi’s role might be the key. He has kept it really tight and hasn’t really offered any freebies.
