Bangladesh will next play Zimbabwe in an ODI series after falling to Zimbabwe in a T20I series with a score of 2-1. The last ODI series these two sides played was when Bangladesh toured Zimbabwe last year and won both the T20I and ODI series.

Although Bangladesh have already lost the T20I series, they are likely to win the ODI series this year.

The momentum is high with Zimbabwe in this series as we can see from the T20I result. But the important thing to remember about the Bangladesh team is they are the team that just beat the West Indies 3-0 in ODI matches just last month.

Zimbabwe, on the other hand, have just beaten Bangladesh in the T20I series, and have also qualified for the upcoming T20 world cup. However, they have to be cautious despite having won most of the games they played in the last 2 months.

Zimbabwe ODI Team

After winning the world cup qualifying match and the prior T20I series, Zimbabwe is prepared to take against Bangladesh with stars like CR Ervine and Sikandar Raza. The matches are being played in their home venue, and they have momentum on their side.

Sikandar Raza is ready to demonstrate his batting prowess against Bangladeshi slow-medium paced bowlers following his outstanding performance in the world cup qualifier, for which he was named player of the tournament.

It would be wrong not to recognise the great overall performance of the playing group, led by captain Craig Ervine, but the team has never won any ODI series since 2019.

Although in the last few matches, Sean Williams made an impressive return for the Chevrons with the bat. The batting side of the Zimbabwe team seems to be pretty strong, and reliable.

With just Tendai Chatara, Sikandar Raza, and Sean Williams to rely on against the hard-hitting Bangladeshi batters, the Zimbabwean squad seemed to be falling behind on the bowling front.

Even yet, we noticed a lot of players making progress in the last T20I match in their bowling, such as Victor Nyauchi, and Wesley Madhevere, led by the speedy Blessing Muzarabani.

Zimbabwe ODI Squad: Craig Ervine (c), Ryan Burl, Regis Chakabva, Tendai Chatara, Luke Jongwe, Innocent Kaia, Clive Madande, Wesely Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Tony Munyonga Dion Myers, Ainsley Ndlovu, Sikandar Raza, Milton Shumba, Donald Tiripano, Sean Williams.

Bangladesh ODI Team

After the crushing defeat in the previous T20I series, when we look into the overall squad analysis of the Bangladesh team in this ODI, the big news is that Tamim Iqbal is going to take over the captaincy, and Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim, are back on the squad after being excluded from the T20I.

This is a good move because looking at the recent performances in the T20I, Nurul Hasan Sohan failed to put on display a brilliant captaincy.

It’s surprising to see Nasum Ahmed still on the ODI squad after his bad performance in the 3rd T20I match, where he gave away 5 sixes in an over. We can still expect brilliant performances from Moztafizur Rahman and Hasan Mahmud.

As for the batting front, we saw in the last T20I match that Liton Das, Afif Hossain, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were not enough to pull the team through. The team mostly struggled against medium pacer Victor Nyauchi, However, in the ODI series, the team has Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad too which puts the Bangladesh team at a slight advantage in terms of batting.

In the last ODI series the team played against West Indies a few days back, we saw a brilliant bowling performance from Mahidy Hasan Miraz and very consistent batting from Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad, and if they can bring the same elements against Zimbabwe, this could be an easy win.

Bangladesh ODI Squad: Tamim Iqbal (captain), Anamul Haque Bijoy, Liton Das, Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Mahmudullah Riyad, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Mosaddek Hossain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Taijul Islam.

Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh – Who will win the ODI Series?

In the 78 ODI matches that the Bangladesh team has ever played against the Zimbabwe squad so far, the Bangladesh team has won 50 and the Zimbabwe team has won 28. In an ODI series played in the same venue last year, Bangladesh defeated Zimbabwe 3-0 under very similar circumstances.

Despite Zimbabwe’s winning streak, our forecast for upcoming Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh ODI series is that Bangladesh will likely beat Zimbabwe 2-1 this year.
