Match Prediction India vs Pakistan, 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

The intense history between these sides and the tussle to get to the top of the group make this an interesting contest to watch out for. Both teams come into the tournament with a title win in their eyes. India haven’t won the tournament since the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. Pakistan haven’t won since 2009 when they followed up an exit in the finals in the previous tournament to record a title win.

Head-to-head record

Wins: India 7, Pakistan 1

Last 5 matches: India 4, Pakistan 1

Who will win today match?

India are the team to beat in this tournament. They come off the back of a gruelling IPL season, have players familiar with the conditions and have unparalleled talent coming through the ranks. They have picked an excellent squad with most bases covered and it’s hard to see them not win against the arch-rivals first up.

India are likely to go in with three pacers and two spinners at the start of the tournament before switching over to more spin. Pakistan are likely to follow the same route too. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s form in the warm-up games will worry India. Shardul Thakur could start in his stead. Pakistan are likely to have both Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez in the middle-order. They played the exact same top five in the two warm-up games and it could be an indication that they will stick to the same against India.

Cricket Tips

India’s spinners, especially Varun Chakravarthy, could prove to be a thorn to Pakistan’s hopes. Virat Kohli might not be making hundreds, but is up for it every time India take on Pakistan. He has scores of 55*, 36* and 78* against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, has made hundreds in each of his last two games against Pakistan, irrespective of format.

Pakistan will bank on the Babar Azam – Mohammad Rizwan combination at the top. The two topped the run charts in the PSL and have been Pakistan’s highest run scorers in T20Is by a large distance since 2020.

Varun Chakravarthy is a mystery spinner not many teams have figured out yet and Pakistan could find the Kolkata Knight Riders spinner too hot to handle, especially given the slew of variations up his sleeve.

Who will be the best match bowler?

While Varun has been excellent, expect Pakistan players to also find it tough to counter Jasprit Bumrah as they rarely face the Indian quick. Bumrah is someone who could blow this Pakistan batting line up away.

Who will win today’s man of the match?

Rohit Sharma will likely drop anchor in this crucial game and given Pakistan’s batting looks unlikely to set big totals, Rohit’s role at the top could just be to bat through, increasing his chances of statpadding his way to a Man of the Match award.

Sharma @10.00

  • Two New Franchises in IPL 2022

The recent team Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions proved fruitful for BCCI as they sold two new franchises – Lucknow and Ahmedabad – for more than USD 1.6 billion. This makes IPL a 10-team event now, though not for the first time, as there were 10 teams in the competition during the 2011 campaign. Let’s
