Post Match Summary CSK vs MI, Match 30

The second phase of the 2021 IPL kicked off with a bang and a result no one saw coming.

CSK were 7 for 3, and it looked it MS Dhoni and his men would be heading for the showers early. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 88 from 58 gave Chennai a total to defend while their bowlers lived up to the mammoth task ahead of them.

Deepak Chahar’s new-ball strikes had Mumbai back-peddling, giving CSK just what they needed to regain control over the game. Saurabh Tiwary tried to inspire Mumbai with a half-century, but the lack of a scoring partner and an overall slow run rate failed to create the necessary impact for his side.

The result sees CSK move to the top of the IPL 2021 table, while Mumbai find themselves in danger of falling out of the top four.

Chennai Super Kings Innings

  • At 24 for 4 after six overs, it seemed highly unlikely the three-time champions would actually go on to win
  • This is only the second time CSK have won an IPL game despite losing four wickets in the powerplay
  • Gaikwad (one six, one four) and Dwayne Bravo (two sixes) scored 24 runs in Trent Boult’s over – the most he has ever conceded in a T20 over

Mumbai Indian Innings

  • Quinton de Kock dropping Gaikwad on 19 should have been a sign of things to come
  • Mumbai’s top order did not last too long despite starting strongly. At 37 for 3, CSK were back in the driving seat
  • Tiwary’s half-century failed to inspire and scoring 49 from the last three overs proved too uphill a task for MI’s lower order
  • The El Clasico of the IPL lived up its billing and then some, setting the stage for an interesting tournament ahead.

Match Prediction IPL 2021: MI vs CSK, Match 30 Preview

CSK has won 6 out of 9 matches played in Dubai, whilst Mumbai has only won 3 out of 8

Cricket Betting

The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is back for its second half. The tournament was called off after the first 29 games were played due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in India. Now, the tournament moves to the UAE for the second year in a row and this 14th edition will finish its remaining 31 encounters over the next three weeks.

It kicks off with the El Classico of the IPL. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in match number 30 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both of these teams are in the top four on the points table. Chennai Super Kings had a very good run in the first half. They lost their first and last game but they won five games in a row in between. Hence, that puts them in the second spot and they are looking quite good and will want to carry from where they left off in April-May.

On the other hand, MI were a touch inconsistent throughout the first half of the season. The five-time champions won four games and lost three out of seven. They are fourth on the points table. They couldn’t build any sort of momentum. If they won two games in a row, they also lost a couple in a row. Rohit Sharm and co. will be looking to turn things around and be a lot more consistent.

MI vs CSK is the biggest game in the IPL tournament.

Team News

Chennai Super Kings

Josh Hazlewood is available for the second half and his replacement Jason Behrendorff will not be a part of the Chennai Super Kings. Thus, the three-time champions may have to make the choice between Josh Hazlewood and Lungi Ngidi for the overseas fast bowler’s spot. Sam Curran will be unavailable for the first game as he is still in quarantine. CSK might also be fretting over Faf du Plessis’ fitness who is struggling with a groin injury.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have not made any changes to their original squad. However, they could make a couple of changes to the XI that last played. Hardik Pandya is fit to bowl which changes the balance of the squad completely. Adam Milne or Marco Jensen could replace James Neesham and Ishan Kishan is likely to come in for Dhawal Kulkarni.

Predicted XI

Chennai Super Kings: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Shardul Thakur, Josh Hazlewood/Lungi Ngidi, Deepak Chahar

Key players

Moeen Ali: The England off-spin all-rounder was highly impressive in the first half of the 2021 edition of the IPL. Ali had a huge impact with both bat and ball and brought some fresh energy to the batting line-up.

206 runs at an average of 34.33, strike-rate of 157.25

Ali will be a key player for CSK this tournament

With the ball, he bowled economical spells consistently and had an economy rate of 6.16 while taking five scalps.

Rahul Chahar: Rahul Chahar has been in superb form with the ball. The 22-year-old Rajasthan leg-spinner picked up 11 wickets from seven games and averages 18.36 with the ball while conceding runs at an economy rate of 7.21.

Chahar returned figures of 3/54 against Sri Lanka

He only played one ODI but had an instant impact

Meanwhile, he played two T20Is and picked up four wickets in those two games. Chahar will be a critical component of this MI bowling attack.
