After a closely-fought T20I series, New Zealand and Pakistan Women will lock horns in the first of the three-match ODI series starting from December 12 (Tuesday). Pakistan created history in the T20Is winning the first two matches and sealing the series. However, the hosts hit back hard winning the match by six runs by DLS method.
However, longer the format, the more it gives a chance to make a comeback. For the same reason, New Zealand will feel more comfortable in this format. Pakistan last defeated New Zealand in ODIs back in 2017 in the UAE. They will be looking to repeat their historic feat this time around.
Today’s match prediction is what follows next in this article with a detailed analysis of both teams:
New Zealand have retained the majority of players that lost the T20Is for this ODI series. They are certainly much better compared to Pakistan when it comes to the 50-over format.
But then they will be aware that the visitors will be itching to turn the tables having won the T20I series. Clearly, the pressure on New Zealand to stay true to their reputation and deliver.
Suzie Bates is a legend irrespective of the format she plays in. She will take confidence from the fact that she scored 51 runs off 42 balls in the last T20I at the same venue.
Also, the onus will be on Bates to keep the Pakistan bowlers at bay right through their innings. Expect the veteran Bates to step up for her side in the first ODI.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Hannah Rowe is a decent bowler when it comes to the ODI format. She picks wickets at regular intervals during her spell and has accounted for 50 scalps in 49 matches in her ODI career so far. One of the reasons for New Zealand’s domination in the ODI series could be her if she bowls well on her day.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Pakistan Women have already performed much better than their previous New Zealand tours. Beating the white ferns in their own den is not an easy achievement and they will take that confidence into the ODI series.
It remains to be seen if the Pakistan players can sustain the pressure for a longer duration in order to beat New Zealand for the first time in six years in the format.
The longer the format, it brings the batters like Bismah Maroof more into the game. The 32-year-old has played 130 ODIs so far scoring 3189 runs at an average of 29.52 with 19 fifties to her name.
She is definitely the best batter Pakistan possess in the format at the moment and the onus will be on her for Pakistan to post or chase a decent total.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Fatima Sana won the player of the series award in the T20Is and now the visitors will look at her to deliver during her 10-over spell as well. She picked up six wickets in 10 overs during the three T20Is and Fatima will just have to make sure to bowl in the same way in ODIs to keep the New Zealand batters on the tenterhooks.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
The aforementioned free cricket betting tips will surely help you in predicting the player of the match award winner. With New Zealand being the favourites, Suzie Bates is likely to win this award.
We will provide you with best toss prediction for today’s match between New Zealand and Pakistan. The surface at the John Davies Oval in Queenstown might be on the slower side with 100 overs set to be played. For the same reason, the team winning the toss will look to bat first.
John Davies Oval in Queenstown last hosted an ODI back in 2014 and the format is returning after 13 years here. The pitch is likely to slow down a bit as the match progresses so batting first will be important.
The betting odds will certainly be in favour of the home team as they are the favourites. As for weather, it will remain cloudy for the first ODI too but rain is unlikely to wash out the entire match.
New Zealand Women are expected to win this match and take an early lead in the series. But they wouldn’t want to take Pakistan lightly who defeated them in the recent T20I series 2-1.
