India Women and Australia Women are all set to face each other in the first game of the three-match T20I series on Friday, January 5. The Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai will host the contest.
India had their chances in the ODI series, but they ended up losing it.
Australia, on the other hand, did not put a foot wrong and showed why they are deemed as the world champions. They will now look to carry the momentum into the T20I series.
India beat Australia in the Women’s Test, but then slumped to a 0-3 series defeat in the ODIs. The 190-run defeat in the third ODI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai would not have helped their confidence by any means.
With change in format, India will be looking for change in fortunes as well. But the task against an in-form Australian team would not be easy by any stretch of the imagination.
Smriti Mandhana can turn out to be India’s top batter in the upcoming match as per our betting odds. The left-handed batter got off to starts in both the ODIs but failed to make them count.
But with loads of experience on his shoulders, she will be hard to stop if she finds her rhythm. In favorable batting conditions, the southpaw will be looking to get some runs under her belt.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Renuka Singh is expected to be the standout bowler for India in their upcoming T20I series against Australia. The pacer is likely to take the new ball and will be looking to make early inroads into the opposition batting lineup.
The speedster picked up seven wickets from three matches in the T20I series against England and will be looking to carry on from where she left off.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Australia have flourished under their new skipper Alyssa Healy. After Meg Lanning retired from international cricket, it seemed that they would struggle for a while, but Healy made sure that Australia continued their dominance. It was evident from how they played in the ODI series against India that they won 3-0.
As per our free cricket tips, Phoebe Litchfield can be expected to stand out for Australia in the batting department in the upcoming game. In the ODI series she scored 260 runs from three matches with a century in the last game to her name.
She also holds the record for the joint-fastest fifty in Women’s T20Is off 18 balls along with New Zealand all-rounder Sophie Devine.
Top Batter Stats - Recent Matches
Megan Schutt has been a brute force for Australia in the T20 format over the years. She is only one wicket short of becoming the all-time leading wicket-taker in WT20Is. With 130 wickets to her name, she is currently level with Pakistan off-break bowler Nida Dar.
Against India, Schutt has picked up 19 wickets from 16 matches at an economy rate of 7.59 with a four-wicket haul.
Top Bowler Stats - Recent Matches
Phoebe Litchfield is one of the strongest contenders to win the Player of the Match award. She looked at her very best in the ODI series and did not look ruffled in tough conditions to bat on. The southpaw can play the big shots with ease and India need to get her out at the earliest.
In five T20Is thus far, the youngster has scored 99 runs at an average of 49.50 with a top score of 52 not out.
As per today’s toss prediction, teams should opt to field first after winning the toss. Dew is most likely to play a big part in the second half of the game and that is why the toss could end up playing a huge role in deciding the winner. In Women’s T20 matches, the average score at the venue is around 158.
The pitch at the venue in Navi Mumbai is expected to be a decent one for batting. Picking wickets with the new ball will hold a lot of significance.
Spinners may find it tough to grip the ball, especially with the dew coming down. There is no chance of rain as of now. Temperatures will be around 28 degrees Celsius with the humidity in the high-40s.
As per today’s match prediction, Australia will start the game as favorites. After winning the ODI series, they will have the mental advantage. However, one cannot undermine India, who have the resources to take down Australia. India have their task cut out in the T20Is after faltering across departments in the ODI series.
