KXIP is an IPL franchise that has several highly talented players in its roster. However, the team’s performance in the IPL often leaves fans wanting more. KXIP has not won the IPL trophy even once. However, the team has made two playoff appearances. In 2008, Shaun Marsh of KXIP earned his only orange cap. In 2009, Kings XI won the fair play award. At the end of the 2018 season, Andrew Tye held the prestige of wearing the purple cap. But, apart from that, KXIP has no significant accomplishments tied to the team’s name.
The Mumbai Indians are not as dominate as perhaps they should be against the KXIP, but the recent form heavily favours MI.Cricket Betting
On the other hand, the legacy of the Mumbai Indians is full of awards and achievements. MI is the most decorated team in the history of the IPL. With 4 IPL and 2 CL trophies to its name, MI has garnered much acclaim for itself. MI even won the most recent rendition of the IPL tournament. Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the player of the match after MI’s victory against CSK. All in all, both teams consist of strong players who have proved themselves from time to time. MI’s track-record does give the team an edge against KXIP, but nothing is set in stone.
KXIP fans and cricket analysts alike have affirmed that the team has underperformed over the last few years. Regardless, great things are still expected from the team with the upcoming season. Fans are hoping for 2020’s IPL season to be the first one that KXIP would win. Likewise, MI’s fanbase is also hoping the same. Given that the team they support is the defending champion, 2020 will be an exciting year for them.
Kings XI Punjab is a team that represents several areas including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana. It has celebrity owners Priti Zinta and Ness Wadiya among others. The team has always been amongst the expected high horses. However, there has not been sufficient displays enabling the team to be an IPL powerhouse – until now. From 2010 to 2012, it had faced the controversial expulsion due to the infamous Lalit Modi case. Later, the High Court revived its position to 2012 IPL. Since then they are serious contenders.
Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, is the most-watched and most celebrated teams in the IPL history. Reliance Industries sponsor it. It has claimed IPL cups for unparalleled 4 times. It has the most lethal of pace battery and well guided & well directed balanced batting order. When those two teams come to a clash, it would be a case where Kings look forward to slaying the giant and prove their worth. That is going to be a tough yet worthy task for new coach Anil Kumble, who has taken charge in 2020. For Mumbai, it is going to be a matter of keeping up with its reputation.
Mumbai has proved to be one of the most admired and up to the mark teams and KXIP has a reputation for taking on its winning streak and still not making the finals. There have also been great singular performances from both sides when facing each other. This rivalry remains a thrilling phenomenon.

KXIP’s last clash against MI took place at the Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai Indians experienced a win on that day. However, MI’s victory was a last-minute miracle. The home team beat KXIP’s score of 197 runs at the last-minute by merely one run. This game is the most reliable information we have to predict future KXIP vs MI matches. Based on this, we can affirm that both teams have an almost equivalent shot at victory in next matches. However, the scales are slightly tipped in MI’s favor.
As we measure the performing powers of MI and KXIP, Mumbai remains a clear favorite in general. But we must look at the fact that KXIP doesn’t have an overall bad record against Mumbai. While, in general too, KXIP has great power to induce big flip-flops, they are particularly challenging in taking Mumbai to fire. In 2014, Punjab topped the chart and claimed the position of runner-up. Kings Eleven has given many fabulous die-hard matches and amusing flip-flops. But unfortunately, it hasn’t been able to secure a place in playoffs more than twice. Other than its 2014 performance, it was only in 2009 when it qualified to playoffs. Thus overall, it seems that between MI and KXIP clash, it is the Mumbai Indians who have the place for an obvious favorite. Nonetheless, given the day and their streak, KXIP shouldn’t be taken for granted.
Games played: 27
Mumbai Indians wins: 16
Kings XI Punjab wins: 11
From a comprehensive standpoint, Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians faced each other in overall 24 head-to-head matches. Mumbai Indians boast a slightly higher number of victories with 13 wins in total. Consequently, Kings XI Punjab has 11 head-to-head wins against Mumbai Indians to its name. 230 runs are the maximum KXIP has scored against MI. Along the same lines, MI’s highest score against KXIP is 223 runs. When we compare the batting stats of both the teams, KXIP players come out on top. 4 out of five highest scores in a single match are attributed to KXIP players. KXIP’s Major Kumar also exhibits the best strike rate of 400.00. On the contrary, the bowling leaderboard is dominated by players on MI’s roster. Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah and Harbhajan Singh occupy some of the top positions. However, when we compare the accolades held by both the teams, MI blows KXIP out of the water. Regardless, the clashes between these franchises are always exciting to watch.
As it appears with all the records and previous performances, the rivalry between Mumbai Indians and Kings Eleven Punjab is a very watchable one. The reasons lay in the fact that while both the teams have a different reputation and track records, there is a particularly different scenario when it comes to their clashes head-to-head with each other.
It is surprising that regardless of KXIP’S records of falling short of playoffs, they have an impressive ratio of victory when it comes to a rivalry with Mumbai Indians. They have won 11 matches and lost only 13 in total 24 matches when they came facing each other in IPL. That makes a significant 45%+ of winning ratio for KXIP. When we couple that fact with that the matches KXIP lost have most of the marginal defeats compared to several times from a mighty and reputed opponent. Mumbai had been regularly clashing with Kings in an almost equal record with just a little edge in winning. Taking into account that MI is otherwise a mammoth and has performed very well against all opponents, KXIP makes a place for a nice chance every time it faces MI. Such clashes often bring the more reputed opponent under pressure and the darker horse better motivation, which makes a better probability of a flip-flop.

Kings XI Punjab held their ground quite firmly in their 2019 home-ground face-off against Mumbai Indians. The nail-biting contest started its first innings with Mumbai Indians at the batting end. The away team put together a total of 176 runs at the loss of 7 wickets. Quintin De Kock contributed the most number of runs (60) to MI’s score. Rohit Sharma also performed quite well as the opening batsman. Hardus Viljoen, Mohammad Shami, and Murugan Ashwin of KXIP took two wickets each. However, KXIP’s chase in the 2nd innings was what truly did the trick. Lokesh Rahul exceeded all expectations by pitching in 71 runs to the team’s total. Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal scored 40 and 43 runs respectively. The final scorecard portrayed that KXIP beat MI with 8 wickets to spare and 8 balls to face. Mayank Agarwal won the ‘Player of the Match’ title for his hotheaded batsmanship.
In 2019, during the 24th match of the IPL season, KXIP faced Mumbai for a very desperate victory. KL Rahul from Punjab made a gigantic leap and scored a century. There the Mumbai Captain Kieron Pollard’s astonishing 83-run inning somehow deserted KL Rahul’s maiden IPL hundred and broke the hearts of Kings’ fan base. Mumbai Indians managed to win the match with last-ball and three-wickets left. That was one of the most interesting matches in the lot.
In KXIP’s 2018 home-ground clash against MI, the former tasted defeat. The match took place at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. The 2nd innings of the match lasted for 19 overs since MI beat KXIP’s target score by then. Chris Gayle’s half-century was impressive to watch, but it failed to do the needed damage.
All in all, KXIP’s batting squad gave a satisfactory performance. However, MI’s well-balanced approach during the chase turned KXIP’s efforts null and void. The away team’s bowling division put in a good show, but the batsmen did the heavy lifting. Krunal Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav were in top form during the match. Other batsmen of MI’s squad also performed well as and when needed.
In 2018, Kings got to play two matches with MI. The first one was played in Indore. It was the 8th match for Kings Eleven. It proved to be a disappointment as they lost the match with a huge margin of 6 wickets. Another clash between Mumbai and Punjab took place again as Kings met Mumbai Indians in their 13th match. They gave a tough fight and a thrilling match that kept alive till the last ball. However, they lost it with as little as 3 runs. That loss also shaded much water of their hopes of securing a place in playoffs.
