The Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab have spent most of their time in the IPL at opposite ends of the table, with Chennai fighting to win titles while the Kings XI Punjab team has been towards the bottom of the standings. Despite this, CSK vs KXIP should still be a good game with Kings XI Punjab are trying their best to get competitive and make their mark.
Chennai Super Kings is a team with a great reputation. They play their home games at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, and that has become somewhat of a fortress for them over the past few years. In its earlier sessions, CSK had performed very well under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and made the playoffs every single time. With Chennai Super Kings wining the IPL title three times so far, it would be no surprise to see them win further titles in the future.
2012 and 2014 were good years for KXIP but thats about it!

The Kings XI Punjab team has struggled to make their mark. Other than winning the league and finishing overall runners up back in 2014, the team has only made the playoffs on one other occasion; this is a team that needs success soon. They play their home games at the PCA Stadium, which is located in Mohali. At Mohali, it’s a great stadium with many national-international memories. Teams from all over the world have played on this soil and it carries a great legacy that stretches back to histories of many important tournaments including Champions Trophy and World Cups. It is located next to Chandigarh airport.
The floodlights in this stadium are designed low so that the effect of planes crossing through the sky can be avoided. That has made it a very good place to watch a match that includes the use of floodlights, be it due to match timing and sometimes the weather. It has an overall capacity of 26,950 fans to watch live matches at once. With great fan base cheering for Sea-of-Red (a nickname for KXIP), it is fun to watch the fandom and madness. The IPL CSK vs KXIP match in Mohali, is one those spectacles you need to see with your own eyes.
Kings Eleven Punjab is one of those teams that haven’t yet shown the potential that seems imbibed in their squad when looked at their equations on paper. The players, however, are outstanding and have been performing superbly in their parallel careers. The fans hope a lot of action from Kings Eleven. KXIP has its home ground in Mohali, the PCA stadium, where a lot of fan base gather for each of their matches.
While the Kings XI are doing all they can to improve as a team and compete with the likes of Chennai, this will be a game that Chennai fans are looking forward to more than Kings XI fans. Those looking to watch the game can do so thanks to the many TV deals that the IPL has in place around the world. These also include deals for companies to live stream games online, so those who want to can watch live over the internet rather than on TV. The Super Kings have dominated in recent season, but the Kings XI are trying to make a comeback and show they can play with the best in this league, something that is going to make this game an incredibly intriguing one to way for fans.
If you want to know how to watch this game and others from the IPL, then take a look at your local listings to find out which TV company or internet streaming company has the rights for games in your area so you can tune in.
The previous meeting is one to note when trying to make a CSK vs KXIP prediction. This was a game that KXIP won, and they did so in quite comfortable fashion. They won by six wickets with two overs to spare, chasing down the 170 put on the board by Chennai with ease, can they repeat that performance next time these two meet?
As we saw above, and as it appears, it is hard to predict an exact favorite between CSK and KXIP. There are downsides of KXIP over to issues with its performances in the previous season that left the fans heartbroken, and then there are those direct clashes between KXIP and CSK where KXIP has proven its worth as a major side that acts as an antidote to CSK’s victory horse. Nonetheless, while CSK has its upside of always being in favorite’s charts, other than the infamous two years of exile, there are upsides with KXIP with its psychological stance against CSK and with its ‘nothing-to-lose’ status. So overall both teams have swept the other in different seasons. In most seasons wherever one team has registered a victory in one match, the other team is the one which ultimately came out as victorious and took away the second faceoff.
The new Kings XI Punjab team members like Maxwell and Sheldon Cottrell will need to perform well for KXIP to win in 2020 as CSK know how to win.
The CSK vs KXIP head to head stats shows that while Chennai does have the upper hand here, the games between these two have not been as one-sided as you would expect. These two teams have played a total of 21 matches (obviously less because CSK was barred from participating in IPL seasons of 2016 and 2017). Those 21 matches have been victorious to CSK for 12 times while Punjab had managed to win 9 matches which is a pretty close encounter. In fact, in the opening season of IPL CSK had swept KXIP in all three matches by 33 runs, 18 runs, and nine wickets. In the 2009 season too, both matches were claimed by CSK with 12 runs and 14 runs. In 2010, Chennai won one match, and the other was tied. It was that when Punjab could register a victory over Chennai through a Super-over.
The Kings XI Punjab seem to perform better than expected against Chennai when they meet based on the figures above. That is backed up by the stats from the games over the past two seasons, each team has won one of the two encounters.
One thing that does look important is home-field advantage, as the games over the last two years have all been won by the team playing at home. That gives Chennai the edge here, but as the stats show, this will not be a walk in the park for them.
If the Kings XI Punjab are to make the finals they need to improve their record against this CSK team, and others!

The CSK vs KXIP 2019 scorecard shows much of the same as the 2018 meeting, dominance for Chennai without them needing to excel. In this one, they opted to bat first and saw Faf du Plessis lead them with 54 from 38 balls. As he has done on many other occasions, MS Dhoni saw them over the line, scoring 37 not out from 23 balls to round off the innings. The Kings XI Punjab took just three wickets in this innings, and it was Ravichandran Ashwin who took them all with his spin bowling.
When the Kings XI Punjab came out to bat, they struggled to keep up with the run rate required, falling further behind as the game went on. Chennai was very economical in this one, restricting the batsman to scoring at a lower rate than they would have liked. The Kings XI got to the end of their innings, but only managed to put 138/5 on the board.
Sarfaraz Khan top-scored for them with 67 from 59 balls, but K. L. Rahul was the only other player to hit double figures with his 55. Harbhajan Singh led the way with the ball for Chennai, taking two wickets and conceding just 17 runs in the process.
The 18th match of IPL season 2019 as the first KXIP vs CSK 2019 clash was played on 6 April 2019. CSK put a good defendable score of 160/3 in its 20 overs. Though it wasn’t a huge score, CSK made the best use of its bowling and managed to block Punjab such that it reached only 138 runs in 20 overs, with five wickets still unused. It was a clinical victory for CSK.
The second clash between those two teams took place during the 55th match of the season, on 5 May 2019. In this match, KXIP altered the course. CSK had 170 runs on board, however, learned from earlier experience, KXIP didn’t fall for CSK bowlers and carried on to make 173 in just 18 overs without losing anything but four wickets.

The best bowler on the day, and also man of the match was Chennai’s Lungi Ngidi, who took four wickets for just ten runs. Shardul Thakur and Dwayne Bravo backed him up nicely too, with two wickets each. When it came to Chennai using the bat, they were led by Suresh Raina, who scored an unbeaten 61 from 48 balls to comfortably take his team over the line.
